Shai played for the University of Kentucky for one year during the 2017-18 basketball season, he was a 4 star recruit from Toronto, Canada that exceeded all expectations to become a lottery pick in the 2018 NBA draft. During his one and done career at UK he was the SEC tournament MVP - which UK won, made the SEC All-Freshman team, and was second-team All-SEC. There were times that Shai put the whole team on his back and carried them. He started out on the bench at the beginning of the year and was a team leader at the end of the year.
